The goal of the Bilu (Bet Ya'akov Lechu Venelcha) members was to immigrate to Israel in order to build it and be built by it. The immigration of the Bilu members is considered the First Aliyah. Despite their small number, they were considered a model for those following in their footstep in their dedication to the building of the country despite the economic and other difficulties that accompanied their settlement in Israel.
David Yudelivitz (1863-1943). After his immigration to Israel, he moved with several of his Bilu friends to the Nachalat Shiva neighborhood in Jerusalem and founded, under the leadership of Rabbi Yechiel Michl Pines of blessed memory and Eliezer Ben-Yehuda a company named 'Tchiyat Yisrael'. Each one of them learned a different handicraft and Yudelivitz became a knife craftsman. Yudelivitz was greatly influenced by Eliezer Ben-Yehuda and devoted himself to the Hebrew language. In Rishon Letzion he founded the first Hebrew school and first Hebrew kindergarten, which still exist.
Menashe Meirovitz (1860-1949), 'the last of the Bilu members'. When he was 22, he became an agronomist and was one of the three Jewish agronomists in Russia. In 1883 he immigrated to Israel. During the years 1902-1903 he headed the executive committee of 'Hovevei Zion' in Jaffa. He was among the founders of the vine-growers' union and the union of settlements in Judea. Meirovitz lived a long life and was the only Bilu member who saw the establishment of the State. The Moshav 'Talmei Menashe' is named after him.
