Two Jewish-German Books. Rare, 1798, 1835.
Apologie fur die unterdruckte Judenschaft in Deutschland, 1798. Presented to the congress in Rastad anonymously by Andreas Riem (1749-1814). He presents a revolutionary approach for the time: equal rights for the Jews is the true test of Democracy. The book was published in two editions. This is the rarer, longer edition. 48 pages. Binding – not original. Fine condition. Dr. Gotthold Salomon, Ihrem, Wahren Lichte, Altona 1835. Polemic regarding the emancipation of the Jews by Dr. Salomon (1784-1862), the first German Jewish preacher. He answers theologian Anton Theodor Hartmann who opposed emancipation. Not in the National Library. 84 pages, binding – not original. Fine condition. .
