Gedulei Terumah. Hundreds of Lines of Glosses by the Wonder of the Generation, the Gaon Rabbi Yissachar Berenstein, Av Beit Din of Hanover - ”Famous in his generation, wonder of the generation, light of Israel, right-hand pillar, strong hammer, Rabbi Yissachar Berish, av beit din  of Hanover ...”  (Rabbi Meshulam Igra) Sefer Gedulei Terumah  - commentary on Sefer HaTerumot  [with its text] by Rabbi Azariah Pijo. Fundamental work of financial halachahs and dinim . Venice, 1643. First edition, printed in the author's lifetime. Copy that previously belonged to the renowned gaon Rabbi Yissachar Berish Berenstein (I), av beit din of Hanover, son of the author of  Pnei Aryeh  and grandson of the author of Pnei Yehoshua . Sefer Gedulei Terumah  on Sefer HaTerumot  has been accepted as the primary commentary on Sefer HaTerumot , 'And it is a faithful servant' - as stated by the Mana”ch ( Shu”t Shtei HaLechem , siman  3). The gaon Rabbi Ephraim Zalman Margaliot of Brody, author of Beit Ephraim , writes in his approbation to  Sefer HaTerumot , Zolkiew edition, that he heard from his ancestors about the amount of money expended by the Sha”ch to obtain Sefer Gedulei Terumah , and the Shach mentions it many times in Choshen Mishpat. Hundreds of lines of Rabbi Yissachar Berish Berenstein's glosses, in his penmanship, appear along the length of the sefer . Some are one-word glosses, and some are composed of dozens of words. In one gloss, he notes words from his great grandfather, the author of Pnei Yehoshua . Despite Rabbi Yissachar Berish, av beit din of Hanover, being one of the giants of his generation, to the extent that the gadol hador , Rabbi Itzikel Hamburger took him as a bridegroom for his daughter, and despite his being considered in his generation chad b'dara in astronomy and Kiddush HaChodesh  (as attested by Rabbi Raphael Segal of Hanover), there is almost no remnant of his Torah novellae. A tiny amount was printed in 1780, when Sefer Pnei Yehoshua  Part IV was printed with Sefer Chiddushei Pnei Aryeh , by his father, Mahara”l, at the end, with a few insights and some responsa from him, as appears there: ”The rabbi, the great light, Rabbi Berish ...” And here are hundreds of lines of his glosses, apparently never printed!
