Rarest of the Rare: Mizrachi al HaTorah - Signatures of Rabbi Avigdor, Av Beit Din of Pinsk, Renowned Fighter Against the Chassidic Movement, whose Tale Led to the Imprisonment of the Alter Rebbe of Chaba”d - Sefer Eliyah Mizrachi - commentary and explanation of Parshandata - Rabbeinu Shlomo Yitzchaki on the Torah, by Rabbi Eliyahu Mizrachi, the Re'em. Fundamental commentary that became one of the three most important supercommentators on Rash”i's words. Furth, Itzik ben Rabbi Leib Press, 1763. The back of the title page bears several signatures by Rabbi Avigdor son of Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kara, from the period of his tenure as in the Leslau rabbinate and then from his tenure in the Pinsk rabbinate, where he succeeded Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berdichev who was removed a short time earlier following activities opposing Chassidism. Historic artifact, a truly precious find, from one of the most prominent personalities in the chronicles of the huge dispute between the  mitnagdim  and the Chassidic movement in its first few decades. To this day, not one work of his has been printed (whether he actually wrote any is unknown), and not a single remnant of a manuscript of his has been offered at auction. Approbations from him appear in only two rare  sefarim ,   Rei'ach HaSadeh  and Siach HaSadeh (Shklov, 1787; 1795), both written by Rabbi Eliezer b”r Meir of Chomsk. As a general rule, very little is known regarding R' Avigdor's life, and the little that is known is from his letters opposing Chassidism. The source of some of this is an error-filled copy in Russian of these letters. This is an important discovery with inestimable value. [2], 241 leaf, 32 cm. Moderate-fine-very fine condition.
