One of a Kind: The Rogachover 's Reply to the Chazon Ish - Partially Unprinted - Exceptionally rare letter, handwritten and signed by the geon hadorot  Rabbi Yosef Rozen - the Rogochover. The letter was sent as a responsum to an interesting question sent to the Rogachover in the name of the Chazon I”sh. Dvinsk, Tuesday, the fourth day of Chanukah, 1933. Letter of rare length, rare clarity with rare and unusual blessings for the Rogachover's letters. Background: On 19 Kislev 1933, the Torah activist R' David Potash sent the letter from the Land of Israel. He had accompanied the Chazon Ish during his ascent to the Land. The Chazon Ish's question is presented to the Rogachover after the former's ascent to the Land. This letter is printed in the new Shu”t   Tzofnat Paneach  (Jerusalem, 2017, siman  87, pp. 298-299; refer to the attached photocopy). The Rogachover addressed the messenger (the activist R' David Potash), and responds to the Chazon Ish's question. The Torah part of the letter - the Rogachover's responsum to the Chazon ”sh - was also printed in the new Tzofnat Paneach  (ibid, 301-303; refer to the attached photocopy). However, the first and last parts of the letter have never been printed. These are the rare personal parts of the letter - very uncommon in letters from the Rogachover, written with his genius evident and typical extreme brevity - often only a series of references. As mentioned, the Rogachover addresses this letter to the 'messenger, ' the activist R' David Potash. Their close relationship is clear from this letter. Apparently the Rogachover had immense gratitude to Rabbi Potash for his financial support, as mentioned in the margins of the letter ”With appreciation for the three American shekels (dollars), ” and also for the communication he facilitated between the Rogachover and his daughter, who had ascended to the Land of Israel. Content of the letter: The Torah part of the letter is interesting and it deals with a major agricultural crop of the Land of Israel at the time - oranges [pomerantz] that did not grow in Europe. The two gedolei hador  discuss whether the oranges are actually ... etrogim? [the Chazon I”sh's opinion], or are they actually apples [the Rogachover's opinion]. The other section - the personal one - of the letter (unprinted) is rare, and it discusses the Rogachover's sefarim , aggadah  about the Chanukah holiday, and rare blessings: ”May [you] be blessed with the three blessings in  birkat kohanim .” As stated, unlike the vast majority of the Rogachover's letters which are characterized by their genius and brevity, this letter is lengthy and very clear!
