Rescue Letter from the Great Rabbi Eliyahu Lopian, Rabbi Eliyahu Lopian, Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer and Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna about Children Immigrating to the Land of Israel in 1952


Letter from the Va'ad Hatzalah L'Yaldei Olim B'Eretz Yisrael who wrote to gedolei hador in the Land of Israel, Rabbi Eliyahu Lopian, Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer and Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna ztz"l to the honorable Rabbi Menachem Tzvi Eichenstein rabbi and av beit din of St. Louis, USA, to help the Va'ad and participate in the huge entrprise of saving the children of olim after the Holocaust, to place them in Torah education facilities.


In their letter, the leaders of the Jewish people note the tremendous flow of immigration to the Land of Israel, including many of whom are Torah-observant, who are placed in outlying areas such as Hadera, Rechovot, Lod and others, and Torah institutions must be opened for the children of these immigrants to study. They have already managed to come to the assistance of five hundred children. They request that foreign residents take upon themselves to participate in this great mitzvah, and commit respectable sums so that Torat Yisrael will not be forgotten.


The signatories on this letter are the gaon Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer, the gaon and tzaddik Rabbi Eliyahu Lopian, the gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna and Rabbi Menachem Tzvi Eichenstein. Brief biographies of all these can be found in the Hebrew catalog text.
