”Hanhagot Tovot” - Diary of Rabbi Ya'akov Sinigalia, Author of HaShabbat shel Mi - ”Heaven and Earth testify that over the years, I bless his name”! (the Chid”a) One-of-a-kind manuscript, ”Hanhagot Tovot” - diary of the gaon and Kabbalist Rabbi Ya'akov Shimshon Shabtai Sinigalia - one of the leading sages of his generation, renowned for his  sefer Shabbat shel Mei  [Ancona and more], 1787-1807. Author's autograph, unknown and never published. On the first page, the author of Shabbat shel Mei  wrote a preface describing the goal of the composition: ”I heard from moreinu v'rabbeinu  Yisrael z”l, that it is a great segulah to read Tehillim a lot. It is a rectification for the soul after a person has passed away. As such, he would say that in my city of Livorno, there are many people who study Tehillim time and again, until reaching a certain amount. When they reach that number, they celebrate because they are guaranteed to go to olam haba . Tehillim will help save them from damaging angels after their passing. So my desire, bli neder , is to study the five sifrei Tehillim  many times, in the amount of the sum of my name, and may it be His will that this will be a rectification for my soul, amen ...” All along this unique manuscript, there are detailed lists of all the times and places in which the gaon Rabbi Ya'akov Sinigalia completed the entire Sefer Tehillim  for the purpose of saving his soul from damagers after his death. So aside from its uniqueness in that there is none other like it, certainly not from a gaon of the stature of the author of Shabbat shel Mei , it is also an important 'diary' relating the events in the life of one of the famous  geonei hadorot over the course of twenty years. In several places in the manuscript, the author also recorded his study of the Zohar , Tikkunei HaZohar , other tikkunim , and more. Following are several passages from the manuscript: ”Between Passover and Shavuot, when I was on my way to Livorno, and on my way back” [1792]; ”When I went to Genova ...” [1795]; ”From Toldot to Beshalach; I studied three times during parashat  Beshalach - a time of distress due to the arrival of the French” [1797, the French conquest - when they destroyed the ghetto walls]; ”1795, I started my composition about Shabbat. That same year, I gave praise to Hashem to pray minchah after midday at the home of moreinu . That praiseworthy year I also composed my work Tzel Sha-dai  and we set a study schedule Friday nights during Shovevi”m ...”; ”From Noach to Bamidbar and Shavuot inclusive, another four times in shifts due to the constraints of the war and enemy ships that arrived [1799]”; ”Twice to make up for seven and a month for my father and teacher, may I be an atonement for him. 1807.” Most people have one or two names, and some have a low numeric value. Rabbi Ya'akov had an especially long name, and it added up to 1590 - which meant he had to recite Tehillim no less than 1590 times! This project took over twenty years[!] and accompanied him throughout his travels and tribulations, as Rabbi Ya'akov himself recorded. It is important to note that in his work Mattah Oz , Rabbi Ya'akov Shimshon Shabtai Sinigalia blesses the person who volunteers to cover the cost of printing his sefer : ”To the generous person who kindly volunteers to print it for me and for my sake, may he be blessed from on high, in all the areas in which one can be blessed in the mikdash , children and strength, long life ... and may he see the consolation of the arrival of mashiach  ...” This work is short yet most significant, and could easily be printed.
