Sacred: Sifrei HaSha”ch that Belonged to Rabbi Chaim Sanzer of Brod, with Glosses in his Hand - Dozens of Glosses Handwritten by his Son - Volume with the pair of Sifrei Sha”ch : Nekudot HaKessef   al HaTa”z; Takfu Kohen  - fundamental work on the laws of financial uncertainties, the rules of kim li  and the laws of teiku . The two sefarim were brought to print by the author's son - Rabbi Moshe Katz, with additional notes. Frankfurt am Oder, 1677. Rare first editions. These were the personal copies that belonged to the gaon and G-dly Kabbalist Rabbi Chaim Sanzer, head of the sages at the kloiz  in Brody; and his son, the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Aharon of Muzhiyevo, who left their signatures on it, as well as sacred glosses, some of which have never been printed. The sacred signature of the G-dly man appears the beginning of the volume, on the title page of Sefer Nekudot HaKessef : 'HaK' Chaim B'HaRav Moh' Rabbi Menachem Nachum N”Y' - This is the signature of the gaon Rabbi Chaim Sanzer. It is the signature from his early years, when he referenced his father as among the living (according to Luach Eretz Yisrael , his father, Rabbi Menachem Nachum passed away in 1749). Later on, he would sign ”HaK' Chaim of Sanz.” His son's signature appears on the title page of Sefer Takfu Kohen  - the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Aharon av beit din  of Muzhiyevo (brother-in-law of Rabbi Moshe of Berdichov, father-in-law of Rabbi Yisrael of Ruzhin): ”HaK' Shmuel b'HaRav HaGaon Mohar”r.” Along both sefarim are over one hundred important glosses, at least some of which are written in the penmanship of Rabbi Chaim Sanzer. A small number of the glosses were published about thirty years ago in the Torah anthologies Tzefunot  and  Zechor L'Avraham . Rabbi Bezalel Vichwalder writes there: ”In the archives of Rabbi Yitzchak Ben Tziyon Wolf shlit”a, there is a first printing of Sefer Nekudot HaKessef  that belonged to the Shach and his son, Rabbi Moshe, bound with Sefer Takfu Kohen , which were both printed in Frankfurt am Main in 1677. The signature 'HaK' Shmuel B'HaRav Moh' Menachem Nachum z”l.' The signature 'HaK' Shmuel B'HaRav HaGaon Mhr”r' appears on the title page of the second sefer (Takfu Kohen ). Many glosses in Sefer Nekudot HaKessef . Examination and comparison of the penmanship shows that only five of these were written by Rabbi Chaim Sanzer. (These glosses were published in Tzefunot  14 Tevet 1992 p 23.) The rest of the comments were apparently written by Rabbi Shmuel, his son. Our appreciation is given to the aforementioned for their permission to publish the above.” The following is a breakdown of the glosses here: In Sefer Nekudot HaKessef : eight glosses in a tiny, neat script. The Tzefunot anthology (1992, Part XIV, pp 23-24) writes that this manuscript was seen by the editors, who identified at least five glosses, that, in their opinion, were written by the gaon Rabbi Chaim . The glosses identified by them appear on page 2b - two short glosses; page 3a - a lengthy gloss and a revision; page 19b - a short gloss. These five glosses contain over [100] words. Twenty-five additional handwritten glosses in  Sefer Nekudot HaKessef  (aside from the five printed in Tzefunot ). These glosses were printed in the Zechor L'Avraham  anthology (1993, pp 177-184) with the possible identification of Rabbi Shmuel Aharon of Muzhiyevo's penmanship, and they were later inserted in Machon Yerushalayim's important editions of the Tur (Friedman edition). Approximately [75] glosses in Sefer Takfu Kohen . Some of these are apparently written by Rabbi Shmuel Aharon of Muzhiyevo. To the best of our examination, the glosses in Sefer Takfu Kohen have never been printed !  It is so thrilling to hold the very  sefer  studied by one of the greatest giants ever to have arisen among the Jewish people, the awesome wonder-worker, who assisted the barren to bear children, and who the light of the seven seas, the Besh”t, admired and valued immensely - to the extent that he said that he is a spark of the soul of Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakai! He even sent his disciples to be blessed by him. Tradition maintains that the sacred brothers, the Rebbe R' Shmelke of Nikolsberg and Rabbi Pinchas of Frankfurt, the Ba'al Hafla'ah , were born as a result of his blessing. It is interesting to note that one of the glosses here also deals with this issue while discussing a  sotah  who was found to be kosher (and in this merit, she is privileged to conceive even if she was previously barren), Rabbi Chaim Sanzer, writes: ”so that she will be cleansed through this and be permitted to her husband through this.” Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the G-dly Rabbi Chaim Sanzer .
