Early Yemenite Tiklal with a Kabbalistic Commentary and the Seventh Chapter of Pirkei Avot! 17th Century - Manuscript - vowelized tiklal with a Kabbalistic commentary. Professional scribal script.[Yemen, 17th century]. It is rare to find prayer books in manuscript from such an early period and in such relatively beautiful condition as this copy. The tiklal contains: Prayers for weekdays and Shabbat with a commentary[!], the Passover Haggadah with a commentary in Arabic using Hebrew letters, Tractate Avot (with a seventh chapter, see below), azharot  by Rabbi Shlomo ibn Gvirol, hymns for Shemini Atzeret, the Chanukah service, Selichot for the high holidays and more. The arrangement of leap years appears at the end. The Yemenite tiklal is meant to be used as a prayer book for the whole year, and as such it was written as briefly and concisely as possible. Weekday and Shabbat prayers in this rare tiklal include Kabbalistic commentaries and novellae. The common text for the standard Pirkei Avot in Jewish communities has six chapters. In this taklil , there is also a ”Seventh Chapter”! Pirkei Avot is traditionally read during the six Shabbats between Passover and Shavuot. However, there are sometimes seven Shabbats during that period. Therefore, in some Yemenite communities, they would add the ”Seventh Chapter” - which is actually the first chapter of Derech Eretz Zuta . Handwritten comment on Page 52a: ”I, the youth, the copyist Yitzchak, found ...” [112] leaf, written on both sides. Lacking several leaves at the end with the leap-year arrangements. 21.5 cm. Overall fine condition. Worming perforations with slight blemishes in the text, some of which are restored. Ink stains, usage and aging stains. Light tears in the margins of [3] leaves with a small lack in the text, old binding with leather spine. Somewhat worn yet well-preserved condition.
