Beautiful Yemenite Manuscript - Three Meggilahs with Zohar and Various Commentaries. 1860. Written During the Great Famine - ”Torah that I learned in dire circumstances - that's what stood by me.” Manuscript - three megillahs: Shir HaShirim, Ruth and Kohelet, with fundamental commentaries: Rash”i, Zohar , Yalkut Shimoni , Midrash Rabbah and Ein Ya'akov. 1860 [ב'קעא לשטרות]. Beautiful script with titles illustrated in many colors. Chilling colophon by the copyist at the end of the manuscript: ”David said ... I wrote this book on a sad day in ב'קעא, a year of famine, and it was completed on the eve of Purim. [From here on, the colophon is in rhyme in the original Hebrew.] There is no bran and no sign of barley. No wheat and no spelt ... most days I have not tasted food, except like yolk, and when it reaches my innards, it rattles around like a bell, and my heart and brain become confused. His writings are well-written and well-reasoned ...” 2-46 leaf, possibly lacking the title page. The body of the book is intact. 23 cm. Fine condition. Typical usage and aging stains. Slight tears and wear in the margins of the leaves. Old marbleized paper binding with a new leather spine, well-preserved.
