Glosses and Novellae on Da'as Zikeinim. In the Hand of Kabalist Rabbi Yaakov Shealtiel Nino, Author of the "Emet L'Yaakov" and additional Glosses
Glosses and novellae in a Sephardic, rabbinic hand on the Da'as Zekeinim of the Ba'al HaTosfot, Leghorn, 1873.
About thirty segments of novellae, some slightly cut, most signed at the beginning and end with the initials אי"ש/ויאמר האי"ש/ אי"ש צעיר/היש"ן. These are all the initials of Yaakov Shealtiel Nino. In his works, he refers to comments he made in other writings with these same initials. There are also a number of glosses in a different hand, some by "Yosef".
Rabbi Yaakov Shealtiel Nino was born in Jerusalem c. 1800 and grew up in the shadow of the great Beit-El kabalists. He was sent by the Tiberias community on a fundraising mission, and made a great impression wherever he went. Rabbi Girundi met with him and wrote about the meeting in his Toldot Gedolei Yisrael (p. 359), mentioning Rabbi Shaltiel's righteousness. He died at a young age c. 1849. He was particularly known for his work, "Emet L'Yaakov" (Leghorn, 1843) and Rabbi Chaim Palagi mentioned him a few time with great respect.
"Da'as Zekeinim" is complete, while the section "Afar Yaakov" is lacking [it does feature the two leaves with comments]. The book is in moderate-poor condition, the glosses are all legible.
