Karaite Haggadah. Cairo, 1903. Ink Stamp: 'Adat HaYisraelim HaKara'im'
Passover haggadah service per the Karaite tradition, published by Kaha"k Mitzrayim [Cairo]. [Budapest], 1903. Ink stamp on the jacket cover: 'Adat Yisrael HaKara'im' [Cairo].
An important Karaite center existed in Egypt until the establishment of the State of Israel, when many of the Karaites immigrated to Israel. This haggadah was printed in a limited number of copies for the Egyptian Karaite group. The haggadah was sent from Egypt to be printed in Budapest.
The haggadah is obviously different from the traditional Jewish haggadahs. One of the differences is in the text of the blessing on matzah, "
... asher kidshanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu l'echol matzah shivat yamim v'hamotzi lechem oni min ha'aretz."
