Talmud Yerushalmi - Sdeh Yehoshua. First Edition. Two Volumes. Constantinople, 1749

Peirush Sdeh Yehoshua al HaYerushalmi (with some of the Yerushalmi's text, see below), by the gaon Rabbi Yehoshua Benveniste, a leading sage of Turkey, and eldest brother of Rabbi Chaim Benveniste, author of HaKnesset HaGedolah. Two parts in two volumes. Kostandina, Ashkenazi Brothers Press. First edition. Constantinople, 1749. Fantastic large picture of the Beit HaMikdash printed in Part I, at the end of the introduction.

The author was very involved with the Torah of the amoraic sages in the Land of Israel. Based on this, he printed his novellae on the Yerushalmi. To make it easier for those who would study it, he printed his commentary together with the Yerushalmi text. But due to the fact that he dealt with the halachic aspect and not the aggadic aspect, the parts of the Talmud Yerushalmi that were printed were only those related to the topic at hand.

It is interesting to note that Shlomo Friedlander, fraudulent author of the infamous Yerushalmi- Kadshim initially tied his forgery to correspondence (also clearly forged) between the Sdeh Eliyahu and his brother about the rediscovered Yerushalmi Kadshim. However, it was quickly revealed that the dates on the letters did not correspond to reality. Friedlander, however, attributed these mistakes to printing errors ...
