Color lithograph by Ph. Frey & Co. - color illustration of a synagogue, with images of Ferdinand I and Maximillian II, two Kaisers of Germany, at the sides.
Frankfurt's Hauptsynagoge was the liberal synagogue there, founded in 1860. It was constructed in place of two early synagogues built in the 15th and 18th centuries, and destroyed during Kristallnacht in 1938.
