Rabbi Ovadia Yosef (1920-2013) was a Sephardic rabbi and author, served as Sephardic chief rabbi (1973-1983) and was its spiritual leader and president of the Council of Torah Sages Of the Shas party since its establishment, winner of the Israel Prize for Torah Literature for 1970.
