Letter written and signed by Rabbi Isser Yehudah Unterman. Tel Aviv, 1964].
Halachic response on official stationery regarding a patient with a serious illness who went to be cured in Germany and was required to eat non-kosher food.
This halachic response was written when Rabbi Unterman was appointed Chief Rabbi of Israel, although the official paper and stamp bear the inscription "Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv-Jaffa".

Rabbi Isser Yehudah Unterman (1886-1936), born in the city of Brisk. He was a rabbi in several communities in Lithuania. In 1923 he moved to England and served as rabbi of Liverpool. After the Holocaust he immigrated to Israel and was appointed Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv. He also served in the Rabbinical Court, and in the 1950s was elected to the Chief Rabbinate Council. On the 3rd of Nissan 5724 he was elected Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi of Israel, a position he held until the year 5732 (1972).

Attached is a personal letter from the patient's father-in-law to his daughter and her sick husband, asking them to eat as required and with a blessing of complete healing.
