Ashanti African Bronze Kuduo Vessel, Ghana Akan
Antique Ghana Akan, Ashanti African Tribal Bronze Kuduo Vessel /Container, Lost Wax Cast, Height: 26 cm., width with handles: ca.16.5 cm., Weight: 1943 gr. Made from a bronze using the original lost-wax process. The top is decorated with figures.
Kuduos are traditional to the Akan group in Ghana, West Africa. Kuduo are often used to store jewelry or other valuables, and are important in traditional religious and political rituals. They are kept in shrines and used by important dignitaries in ritual.
The lost-wax brass process is very laborious: each item is constructed individually out of wax, then packed in a special clay. The wax is removed, leaving a firm clay mold that the brass is poured into.
Every lost-wax brass item is hand crafted and one of a kind.
