"Zionism in Word and Deed" – New York, Early 20th Century – Yiddish Translation of "Der Judenstaat" by Theodor Herzl – An Early American Edition of "Der Judenstaat" in Yiddish
Tsienizmus in Vort un Thot [Zionism in Word and Deed], by Israel Isaac Wolf. New York: Y. Wolf, [ca. 1900-1902]. Yiddish. The first book of the series "Volf's Idishe Biblyotek".
The book contains a Yiddish translation of "Der Judenstaat" by Theodor Herzl – one of the first printings of "Der Judenstaat" in America (possibly the first).
Alongside the translation, the book contains an article about Zionism in America by Israel Isaac Wolf and an article about the history of the Zionist movement by writer and journalist Avner Tenenbaum.
Israel-Isaac Wolf (1861-1926), a writer, editor and publisher, was born in Lithuania and studied at the Volozhin Yeshiva. In 1893, he immigrated to Cleveland, USA, where he founded the first Hebrew publishing house. He took part in editing the weekly "Der Idisher Shtern", the daily "Di Idishe Velt" and the Zionist weekly "Das Idishe Falk". In 1901, he founded a publishing house in New York and published a series of books titled "Volf's Idishe Biblyotek".
