Series of [3] Important Letters from the Gaon of Tshebin
Series of important halachic letters from the gaon of Tshebin - Rabbi Dov Berish Weidenfeld, in which he reveals his opinion of some of the generation's rabbinic leaders. Tammuz-Av 1958.
These are a series of consecutive letters from the gaon of Tshebin to the rabbi of Zurich, Rabbi Binyamin Ze'ev Weiss, about a serious question of conversion. The gaon of Tshebin responds in the first letter, that only due to his respect for the questioner is he willing to become involved in this serious matter. However, he stipulates that the rabbi of Zurich first present the question to an additional rabbi, from a list of three rabbis he includes in the letter. The three rabbis named by the gaon of Tshebin are: Rabbi Weiss of Manchester (author of Minchat Yitzchak), Rabbi Tzvi Pesach Frank, and Rabbi Pinchas Epstein. In the second letter, after a response has been received from one of these three rabbis, the gaon of Tshebin writes about him: "And without a doubt, there is no need to investigate further, and the great gaonic expert rabbi's instructions ... may be relied upon without any hesitation." In the third letter, the gaon of Tshebin reveals his opinion about another adjudicator among the three. It is interesting to note that the gaon of Tshebin lists the author of Minchat Yitzchak together with two of the rabbinic leaders of the generation, despite his youth.
Rabbi Dov Berish Weidenfeld [1881-1966] was one of the leading geonim of Galicia. He was nicknamed "Sar HaTorah" and "Posek HaDor." (Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a more detailed biography.)
[3] letters. Various leaves and sizes. Scribal script. All have a line of additional blessings in the gaon of Tshebin's handwriting, as well as his signature.
