Kol-Bo. Venice, 1547
Kol-Bo - laws for the whole year, halachahs and minhagim, by an unknown author. Venice, Justinian Press. Decorative title page, with a picture of the Holy Temple at center.
Kol-Bo is a book of halachah which was written during the period of the Early Authorities. It was used very much by the generations that followed, who cited it extensively. It includes, in one book, the earliest elucidations on the Passover haggadah.
The book's author is unknown, and various hypotheses have arisen regarding his identity. Shalshelet HaKabbalah writes that its author is the Riva"sh; the Chid"a rejects this possibility. There are those who say that Rabbi Aharon HaKohen of Lonil wrote the Kol-Bo as a first edition of his known work, Orchot Chaim, which was written several years after the Kol-Bo. Kor'e HaDorot writes that there are those who say that it was a wise woman who wrote the book, but then writes that its content is male wisdom, not female wisdom. From the aspect of its content, Kol-Bo is greatly influenced by Orchot Chaim by Rabbi Aharon HaKohen of Lonil, and as such there are those who attribute the work to him.
