A complete, nice set, first edition of Tikunei Zohar with Be’er L’Chai Roi – part 3 was given by the Minchat Elazar of Munkacs to Rabbi Asher Anshil Weiss of Nagyfalu
A set of three parts of the book Tikkunei Zohar by the tanna Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai with the commentary Be’er L’Chai Roi “according to the foundations of the introductions to the Zohar and homilies of our Sages on the Talmud, midrashim and the works of the Ari…” by the Rebbe Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Shapiro the ‘Darkei Teshuva’ of Munkacs. First edition, two parts of which were printed during the author’s lifetime, part three was printed after the author’s death by his only son and successor the Rebbe Rabbi Chaim Elazar Shapiro the Minchat Elazar of Munkacs who wrote the introduction to this book and added his glosses within the commentary in square brackets that begin with the initials alef hey [the proofreader says]. Part three of the copy before us was given as a gift by the Minchat Elazar to Rabbi Asher Anshil, av beit din of Nagyfalu who wrote in his handwriting on the title page: “I was given this holy book by the son of the author. Asher Anshil son of Chana.” Part one: Introduction until tikkun 17. Munkacs, 1903. [3], 259 leaves. Two title pages. Part two: tikkunim 18-21. Munkacs, 1909. [1], 311 leaves. Two title pages, first title page is colored. Part three: tikkunim 22-55. Beregszasz 1921. 448 [1] pages. Title page in red ink. Minimal worming holes. Simple matching covers, blemishes and slight stains, good general condition. The author the Rebbe Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Shapiro (1850-1914) the rebbe of Munkacs and rabbi of the city, the son of the Rebbe Rabbi Shlomo of Munkacs and son-in-law of Rabbi Chanina Horowitz, rabbi of Ulaniv [the son of Rabbi Yaakov of Melitz]. Named after Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Zidichov as he was born on the anniversary of his death. One of the disciples of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz and his son Rabbi Yechezkel of Shinova. Author of: Be’er L’Chai Roi, Darkei Teshuva, Zvi Tiferet and others. His only son, the Rebbe Rabbi Chaim Elazar Shapiro (1872-1937) succeeded his father in Munkacs and was one of the foremost rabbis eastern-central Europe between the two world wars. He took a conservative and firm approach to Zionism and to Agudat Yisrael. Author of: Minchat Elazar, Ot Chaim V’Shalom and others. Rabbi Asher Anshil Weiss (1882-1944), rabbi of the community of Nagyfalu, son of Rabbi Moshe Shlomo Weiss Markowitz and Rebbetzin Chana nee Berger. Disciple of his brother-in-law Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Weinberger av beit din of Margaretin and one of the foremost disciples of the Shevet Sofer and the Arugat Habosem. Author of Shemen L’Mincha. He was murdered with the rest of his community during the Holocaust by the Nazis.
