Letter by Rebbe Yisrael of Chortkov
Letter by the well known Rebbe of Chortkov. Handwritten and signed by the holy "Yisrael Son of David Moshe". Vienna, 1928.
A letter of blessing and prayer for good health, livelihood and success, as well as a New Year greeting.
Rebbe Yisrael Friedman of Chortkov (1854-1933, Otzar Ha-Rabanim 12025). Son of Rabbi David Moshe of Chortkov and son in law of Rabbi Avraham Ya'akov of Sadigura – holy sons of Rabbi Yisrael of Ruzhyn. One of the impor-tant Rebbes of Ruzhyn. A remarkable Chassidic leader. One of the founders of Aggudat Yisrael and president of Moetzet Gedoley Ha-Torah. Amongst thousands of followers of his were some foremost rabbis like Rabbi Shapira of Lublin, Maharam Arik and Gara"m Steinberg of Brody. His court in Chortkov, Galicia, was destroyed during World War I and he moved to Vienna. (See Kedem catalogue no. 8, item 489).
