Leon Azoulay (N. 1945), Micrography of the Book of Genesis, lithographic lithograph, signed with pencil and numbered 1/495, framed, dimensions: 74x48 cm.* Leon Azoulay was born in Morocco in 1945. After immigrating to Israel he lived in Safed and studied art and graphics. Azoulay was interested in biblical art at the beginning of his career. Lived in the ancient town of Safed, the birthplace of Jewish mysticism (the Kabbalah), inspired him in the search for a means to express his passion for painting and the Bible, and his art is a unique fusion of the two: Azulai's paintings depict scenes from the Bible mixed with bibliographical passages In tiny letters (micro-calligraphy). His performance on the creation story, for example, consists of every book of Genesis in the book of micrography, in a way that actually builds the scene. Azoulay has participated in many exhibitions around the world including the United States and Canada.
