Kehillot Moshe - Set of Mikra'ot Gedolot in Large Format - Amsterdam, 1724-1728
Kehillot Moshe, Mikra'ot Gedolot with all the commentaries. Amsterdam, [1724-1728]. Printed by R. Moshe Frankfurt.
Complete set. Four parts in four volumes, in an especially large format.
This edition, comprising compositions and many commentaries of leading Torah sages, is named for its editor, publisher and printer, R. Moshe Frankfurt (1678-1768), an Amsterdam dayan who wrote and printed many books in his printing press and in other printing presses in Amsterdam, but is especially celebrated for re-editing the composition Be'er HaGolah on the Shulchan Aruch.
Handwritten dedications on three title pages. Two particularly long glosses in charming Oriental writing appear in the first volume. One, commentary "on a riddle of Ibn Ezra by R. David Grünhut" signed by "Shmuel ---". This signature appears twice and in both places the surname of the writer was erased at a later time. The second gloss appears on page 38/b and is signed with the Hebrew initials: "H.E.S.K". The fourth volume has another two glosses.
Part 1: [10], 293 leaves. Lacking [2] last leaves of the index and "Kavanah of the Torah by the Sforno". Part 2: [2], 46, [4], 47-378 leaves. Part 3: [2], 322, 65 leaves (bound here instead of at the end of Part 4). Part 4: [5], 415 leaves. 45 cm. Overall good-fair condition. High quality paper. Stains. Slight wear. Worming in a few places. Restored tears to margins of title page and several other leaves. Some leaves are dark. New leather bindings, integrated with remnants of the original bindings.
