A long responsum handwritten and signed by the Tzitz Eliezer.

The addressee: Rabbi Yisrael Woltz, the former rabbi of Budapest and one of the most prominent rabbis of Hungary. Sivan [1970].

He summarizes his opinion: "That being the case, if we pay attention how on the one hand it is doubtful whether there is a Mitzvah nowadays of blowing the trumpets, especially near the borders and at these times … and on the other hand, if we use trumpets, we encounter according to many Poskim, a prohibition … the obvious conclusion is that … we must not renew this Mitzvah…". He adds that the most prominent rabbis of previous generations also did not think of renewing the blowing of trumpets during war.

Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Waldenberg (1916-2007) was a member of the Supreme Rabbinical Court and prominent Posek of his generation. His book, 'Tzitz Eliezer', is one of the most important halachic ruling books in our generation. He was the head of the 'Sha'arei Zion' Yeshiva and rabbi of the Sha'arei Zedek Medical Center. Was known for his clear learning and writings, in all facets of the Torah. He served some of the geniuses of Jerusalem: Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook and Rabbi Zvi Pesach Frank and was one of the first to deal with the laws of the Torah and the state, and current halachic rulings.
