Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Chaim Berlin to Yeshivat Etz Chaim in Jerusalem - 1860.
Letter by the Ga'on Rabbi Chaim Berlin zt "l, to Yeshivat Etz Chaim in Jerusalem. The letter mentions Rabbi Shmuel Salant zt "l, rabbi of Jerusalem and head of Yeshivat Etz Chaim.
The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin (5592-5673), the son of the Netziv of Volozhin, was the rabbi of Moscow, and later replaced his father as Rosh Yeshiva of Volozhin. He is admired even among Hasidic circles. In 1906, at the age of 75, he moved to Jerusalem and served as Rabbi of Jerusalem alongside Rabbi Shmuel Salant and even after his death in 1909. Despite his old age, he worked hard for Jerusalem and for its institutions of Torah and charity. He was the head of the General Committee of Knesset Yisrael on the distribution funds. He would welcome everyone, and he would be revered by Hasidim like Pharisees.
