Second edition of the Tikunei Ha’Zohar and the only edition of the Chemdas Tzvi commentary, by R. Tzvi Hirsch Chotsh of Cracow. With a beautiful title page depicting various biblical scenes. On the upper part of the title page is a large illustration of a deer. With various distinguished approbations including one by R. Naftali Katz, (Semichas Chachomim).
R. Tzvi Hirsch Chotsch was a renowned Dayan and Mekubal in Cracow in the latter part of the 17th century. He was one of the first disseminators of the Kabbalah of the ARIZAL in Poland and published several important Kabbalistic works including, Nachlas Tzvi, Derech Ha’Yeshoro and Tiferes Tzvi.
As with other kabbalists of his era, his preoccupation with Kabolah led some to accuse him of being a Sabbatean. They point to the deer on the title page as well the word TZVI printed in a large font. It should however be noted that the author’s name was Tzvi as well. See Yaari; Diglei Ha’Madfisim Ha’Ivri ‘im page 57.
