Ohr HaTzafun contains the discourses of R. Nosson Tzvi Finkel, the “Alter” of Slabodka. Knesses Yisroel includes many essays by heads and students of the Yeshiva, including R. Yitzchok Issac Sher, R. Avraham Grodzensky, R. Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg (Sridei Eish), R. Yitzchok Hutner and R. Mordechai Shulman.
The Knesses Yisroel Slabodka Yeshiva was established in 1881 by R. Nosson Tzvi Finkel (1849-1927), a student of R. Simcha Zissel Ziv, the “Alter” of Kelm. Under the leadership of both the “Alter” and the Rosh Yeshiva, R. Moshe Mordechai Epstein, it quickly became one of the most prestigious Yeshivos in Europe. Distinguished alumni include R. Aaron Kotler, R. Reuven Grozovsky, R. Yaakov Kammenetsky, R. Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman, R. Yitzchok Hutner and R. Elazar Shach.
