The Buchenwald was a Nazi concentration camp, one of the largest in Germany. It was operative since its establishment in July 1937 until it was released by the Americans on April 11 1945. During this period of time, about 250,000 people passed through the camp, of them, about 65,000 are estimated to have been murdered in the camp including those who died during the Death March before the camp's release.

These banknotes actually served no one but were part of the attempt of the Germans to present the life in the ghetto as normative and pleasant.
The Theresienstadt ghetto was a 'Model Ghetto' which was used by the Nazis to deceive the Red Cross. The ghetto had a bank into which no one ever entered and issued banknotes which nothing could be done with. However, due to the circumstances, there were slightly better conditions in the Theresienstadt ghetto than in other ghettoes. Many German Jews were transferred to the ghetto, many of whom died from diseases or were eventually sent to Auschwitz.
