Handwritten Notebook - the Finance Committee of the Internment Camp of the Exiled Members of the Irgun and the Lechi in Gilgl (Kenya) -a Special, Historical Item!
A thick notebook with handwritten protocols of the meetings of the "Finance Committee" of the internment camp of the exiled members of the Irgun and the Lechi in Africa [Gilgil, Kenya]. December 1947-June 1948.
Most of the protocols deal with the allocation of funds for food products, cigarettes , activities such as movies, sports activities and more.
The notebook was handwritten by two different writers.
Historical background:
From 1944 to 1948, members of the Irgun and Lechi being held without trial at the Latroun concentration camp were deported by the authorities of the British Mandate of Palestine to internment camps in Africa, located in Sembel (near Asmara, Eritrea), Carthago, Sudan and Gilgil (north of Nairobi, Kenya). The deportees were returned in July 1948, only after the Israeli Declaration of Independence.
The notebook before us contains lists from the final six months before the release of the members of the Irgun and the Lechi in GIlgil.
21 cm. About 40 written pages (most of the pages of the notebook, between the chapters, are empty).
Condition: Good. Stains and holes in several of the leaves, torn binding.
