Rare Postcard of the Herzliya Gymnasium - with the Handwriting of the Philanthropist who had Established It, Dr. Ya'akov Moser - 1912
A special "Shana Tovah" postcard of the Herzliya Gymnasium, which was printed by the philanthropist who had established it, Dr. Ya'akov Moser. On one of its sides, a work of art that includes aphotograph of the building of the gymnasium decorated with trees and flowers and the inscription "Le'Shana Tovah Tikatevu". On the reverse side, Ya'akov Moser's name is printed. On this side, he added the handwritten name of the addressee of the postcard - Prof. David Yelin. The eve of Rosh Ha'Shana 1912.

Background:
The industrialist, judge and advocate Ya'akov Moser was born in 1893 in Kappeln, Germany. He was educated in Hamburg and Paris and as an adult moved to live in Bradford, England.
He was an enthusiastic Zionist and was enchanted by Dr. Theodor Herzl. For years he srtood beside Herzl, supporting Zionism. During the seventh Zionist Congress, Moser was chosen to be the vice chairman f the congress.
Subsequent to David Wolfson's speech during the eighth Zionist Congress in Hague, 1907, about the importance of building an impressive building for the first Hebrew Gymnasium in Tel Aviv, Moser announced that he will donate 80,000 Franks for the building of the Gymnasium on one condition - that the institution will be named after Theodor Herzl. His announcement was received with great joy. Dr. Bograshov greeted Ya'akov Moser on behalf of the Gymnasium with tears in his eyes. The generous donation was reported by all the newspapers of the time.
Later, Moser decided to fund the building from start to finish and eventually donated 99,500 Franks to cover all expenses of the building. In the following years, he continued to donate money to the foundation of Hebrew education in the Land of Israel, an amount that reached the sum of a million Frank.
In Adar 1910, the building of the Gymnasium was almost completed and Ya'akov Meir and his wife came to the Land of Israel to inaugurate its first floor. In Elul 1910, the building was completed and a few months later, the complete school moved from Jaffa to its new building on Herzl Street.
Moser was also a member of the Jewish National Fund and served as the mayor of Bradford (he was chosen in 1911). He donated money for building a senior citizens' home in his town and donated significant sums of money for planting the "Herzl Forest".
Ya'akov Moser died in Bradford in 1922.
