TALLEYRAND-PÉRIGORD CHARLES MAURICE DE: (1754-1838) French Diplomat and Statesman. Prime Minister of France July-September 1815. A curious L.S., `Ch Mau Talleyrand«, two pages, folio, 16th November 1798, to the French finance Minister, in French. The document bears at the heading an attractive French Republic monogramme, and Talleyrand in his capacity as Minister of foreign affairs sends a request to his colleague the finance Minister, stating in part `I forward to you a copy of a claim presented by a Batavian merchant which has been sent to the plenipotentiary Minister of the French republic in La Haye related to the taxes charged by the French customs on salmons and sturgeons...« With a contemporary annotation at the heading. The document bears a large attractive watermark, H & S, and the year 1794. With blank integral leaf. Small overall minor age wear. VG £100-150 Dominique-Vincent Ramel de Nogaret (1760-1829) French Politician. Finance minister 1796-99. Ramel de Nogaret was forced into exile in Belgium in 1816 where he died without ever returning to France.
