CUGNET DE MONTARLOT CLAUDE-FRANÇOIS: (1778-1824) French Officer during revolution. Cugnet de Montarlot escaped to Spain where he attempted to take possession of the city of Tarifa, near Gibraltar, with only fifty revolutionary republicans. He failed, was arrested and shot. Rare A.L.S., Cugnet, one page, 4to, Bubenheim, 25th October 1795, to Louvet de Couvray, in French. A young Cugnet de Montarlot writes to his superior who has recently been elected to the Five-Hundred Council asking for a new post stating in part `..how much I would appreciate if you order my change of post..to Belfort or Besanon and continue there my service, if you would consider authorizing this..« Professionally repaired to the borders.
