ROBESPIERRE MAXIMILIEN DE: (1758-1794) French Lawyer & Politician, one of the most influential figures of the French Revolution. Executed by guillotine at the age of 36. Rare D.S., Robespierre, at the foot, in his capacity as a member of the Committee of Public Safety, one page, small 4to (slightly trimmed to the edges), Paris, 11 floreal an 2 (30th April 1794), in French. The partially printed document was issued by the Committee of Public Safety and features their vignette at the head (the design featuring an all-seeing eye at the top, a cannon and other military equipment, and incorporating the legends Republique Franaise, une et indivisible and Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite, ou la Mort) and relates to Citizen Guerin, an artist and chasseur serving with the Armee du Nord. The document states that Guerin is 'requisitioned in order to utilize his talents to transmit to posterity the glorious events of our revolution, in accordance with the call made to artists in the decrees of the Committee'. Countersigned at the foot by Bertrand Barere (1755-1841), French Politician, Freemason & Journalist, one of the most prominent members of the National Convention during the French Revolution; Jean-Marie Collot d'Herbois (1749-1796), French Actor, Dramatist and Revolutionary, a member of the Committee of Public Safety during the Reign of Terror. Although saving Madame Tussaud from being guillotined, Collot d'Herbois administered the execution of more than 2000 people in Lyon; and Lazare Carnot (1753-1823), French Politician, Engineer, Freemason and Mathematician, known as the Organiser of Victory in the French Revolutionary Wars. Very slightly neatly trimmed to the edges, only very slightly affecting the annotations to the left margin, and not affecting the main body of text or signatures. About VG £3000-4000
