A German, high quality, rare and unusual carved ivory Tankard *Bacchanalia.
Circa 1880.
Carved with Women and men celebrating, cupid and grape leaves. The lid carved with a girl, boy, swamp monster and a nude girl. Signed R (inside the cover).
Height: 37 cm.
Provenance: Rutie Ofer Collection.
* Bacchanalia means discharge of burden. It was a Roman festival in honor of the wine god Bacchus characterized by the Emancipation of passions, drinking wine, sexual freedom and violence.
