A large and impressive collection of envelopes, postcards and mailings with various postmarks of the post offices in Jerusalem during the Ottoman period
The postmarks include those of incoming and outgoing mail of the Turkish, Austrian, German, Russian and French postal services. Including several postcards with postmarks of hotels.
Some of the items have additional historical value. For example:
A. A postcard sent by Reb Meir Ish Shalom to Reb Avraham Moshe Luntz in Jerusalem. Handwritten and signed by Reb Meir Ish Shalom.
Reb Meir Ish Shalom learned in his youth in yeshivas of the greatest rabbis of the generation. He was one of the greatest researches of Judaism in recent generations. He published scientific editions of most of the Halachic Midrashim and some of the Aggadda Midrashim. The study of these fields is still based on his researches.
Reb Avraham Moshe Luntz was a Torah scholar, researcher and geographer of Jerusalem and the Land of Israel as well as a fertile author. He published his books in his own printing house in Jerusalem. In his youth, he became blind, yet continued his studies and literary enterprises. He was a friend and partner of Reb Yisrael Dov Frumkon.
B. A wedding invitation sent from Jerusalem to Ya'akov Levi in Berlin of the marriage of Rachel Meyuchas to Dr. Arye Feigenbaum on 4.8.1914 in Amdorsky Hotel in Jerusalem.
Rachel Meyuchas, the daughter of Yosef Meyuchas, one of the greatest activists in Jerusalem at the time, the son-in-law of Reb Yechiel Michl Piness and brother-in-law of David Yelin.
