A letter written by one of the founders of the kibbutz, Avraham Tzarum, describing the preparations for establishing the Kibbutz in the Negev and the first day of its establishment. Between the lines, one can feel the Zionist pioneering mood of the kibbutz members. The letter was sent from Alumim to Tzarum's friend, Jack Teichman in the USA.
The beginning of the letter was written by Tzarum on 26.6.1947 while he was in Herzliya, where all the members of the Alumim group gathered. He tells about the plans to move to the new kibbutz. The rest of the letter was written several days later – a day after the members moved to the new kibbutz, on 1.7.1947, and Tzarum describes the establishment of the kibbutz. He says that the group gathered in 'Be'erot Yitzchak' on the night before the establishment, with few members remaining in Herzliya. Dozens of members of 'Bnei Akiva' arrived in trucks to help with the establishment of the kibbutz. "We arrived at three in the night … everything went as planned, the whole camp was built within six hours of hard work of all the participants … the work was wonderful, the camp is kind of a fortress … we are about to start digging for water and meanwhile, we will receive water from Nir Am". He continues to describe the parties in Be'erot Yitzchak and Herzliya and ends with: "Shalom for now, I am very tired".
The letter is written on a wide paper, with two columns, which was then folded and became the letter's envelope.
Excellent condition.
