TWO ITEMS WITH THE PERSONAL SIGNATURE OF MENAHEM USSISHKIN: A LETTER REGARDING THE FIRST FARMER IN PETAH TIKVA, AND A HOLY BOOK FROM HIS PERSONAL LIBRARY
Two interesting items signed by Menachem Ussishkin (1863-1942). Ussishkin was a Zionist leader, member of 'Hovevey Zion' and chairman of the Jewish National Fund. Established various institutions of the Zionist movement.
1. Letter signed by Menachem Ussishkin to the estate registration committee in Petah Tikva, referencing the property of Zvi Lampert, first ploughman of Petah Tikva.
In the letter, dated January 1942, Ussishkin orders the release of the mortgaged property of Lampert.
The letter was typewritten on official stationery of the Jewish National Fund, and signed in the handwriting of Ussishkin.
Zvi Lampert (1882-1953) immigrated to Israel as a child, and worked from an early age in his parents' farm, who were of the first founders of the colony of Petah Tikva. He plowed the first deep plowing and taught the people of Petah Tikva plowing and agriculture. He guarded and defended and the young colony, and took part in the construction. He was known for his acts of kindness, especially during the First World War. A street was named after him in Petah Tikva.
2. The book ‘Ma'ora shel Torah’, from the Library of Ussishkin.
The Book ‘Ma'ora shel Torah’ by Rabbi Shimon Halperin - commentary on the Torah, "in a short style and easy to ponder so as to be worthy of all parties". Jerusalem 1932.
A signature of Menachem Ussishkin appears on the title page.
Rabbi Shimon Halperin (1879-1956) served as Rav and Moreh Tzedek in Vilnius where he printed his book Mateh Shimon. Grew closer to the Mizrahi and participated in its meetings. In the year 1925 immigrated to Israel and lived for a time in Hadar HaCarmel in Haifa. He then moved to Jerusalem, where he printed his book Ma'ora shel Torah’, which included two parts. Throughout the years, he edited books and published booklets about the weekly Torah portion.
Very good condition of both items.
