A letter from Meir Dizengoff to his friend Nathan Feinberg, a member of the Association for the League of Nations.
In the letter from 7.10.1927, Dizengoff and his secretary thank Feinberg for the books he had sent them for the association. They also fill him in about certain public meetings that the representative of the association, Dr. Zion Mosinzon (the principal of the gymnasium in Jaffa – later Herzliya Gymnasium) will not be able to attend for unexpected reasons. In addition, Dizengoff and his secretary ask Feinberg to purchase a list of books (attached to the letter) for the library they are intending to establish.
Meir Dizengoff (1861-1936). In his youth, he was a member of the 'Hovevei Zion' association and established a branch of the association in Chisinau. He immigrated to Israel in 1892. A year later, he left for Egypt and then returned to Odessa. All the while, he continued his activity in 'Hovevei Zion' and participated in the Zionist Congresses. In 1905, he again immigrated to Israel and lived in Jaffa. In 1911, five years after the foundation of the 'Achuzat Bayit' Association for building the first Hebrew city, Dizengoff was chosen as the head of the committee and served in this role until 1922. When Tel-Aviv received the status of a city, he was chosen to be its first mayor and served in this role almost consecutively until his death in 1933.
Professor Nathan Feinberg was born in Kaunas in 1895 and was accredited doctor of law in 1918. He served as the secretary of the Committee of Jewish Delegations in Paris and with the initiative of the Committee founded Jewish associations for the League of Nations. In 1924, he immigrated to Israel. He passed the test for foreign lawyers and worked in the State Attorney until 1927. In 1928, he travelled to Geneva is Switzerland to study international law (at the same time, he received the letter before us).
For three years starting in 1930, he served as the representative of the Jewish Delegations Committee before the League of Nations regarding the protection of the rights of the Jewish minority in the States established or expanded according to peace contracts and obligated themselves to acknowledge the rights of the minorities in their territory. At the end of 1933, he returned to Israel and continued his work in the State Attorney and in public activity. Several years later, he was nominated the dean of the Faculty of Law of the Hebrew University.
The letter was typewritten and Dizengoff and his secretary hand-signed it. At the margins, the secretary added a hand-written note with several requests from Feinberg.
Very good condition.
