Two letters sent by Moshe Feldstein, a soldier in the Jewish Brigade, on its official stationary. Feldstein immigrated from Ukraine to the land of Israel in 1913, at the age of 17. He was petite in build but strong-willed: “It was if a great Hassidic soul was sent to us to remind us that our work cannot come out of sadness, and we are required to do our part happily”, it was later written of him.
In 1915, he joined the Jewish Brigade alongside six of his friends from Rehovot’s Poalim group (led by Binyamin Monter): Elimelech Kremer (Kerem), Eliezer Lustiger, Meir Goldmer, Elimelech Niman, Yoel Porat, and Haim Gutshell.
In 1920, Feldman mailed these two letters to Lustiger. In the first he wrote: “Hello Lustiger. Send me Golovechiner’s address… I’m still at headquarters…Please let me know if the booklets of Ha'Peol Ha'Tza'ir and Ha'Aretz from Tuesday, Thursday and Friday have arrived. Is there any news from the Galilee? Let me know if the guys are back from their duties. Yours, Moshe.”
In the second letter he wrote: “My dear Lustiger! Please send me any available reading material… what about Gutshell? Send him over here? And what about our ‘Chadashot"? … Say hello to Kremer, Goldmer, Niman, Efrat and the rest of the gang”.
Very good condition.
