Stamp of Rabbi Haim Berlin and Rabbi Menashe Sathon on the book Mesharet Moshe—first edition, Livorno 1823.

Mesharet Moshe on the Rambam, by Rabbi Yitzhak ben Yeshaya Attiah. First edition. [1], 118 leaves. New binding, stains, overall good condition.

The title page and the body of the work have stamps of the gaon Rabbi Haim Berlin. There is also a Sefardi stamp on the title page: the young Menashe Matlov Sathon. See below.

Rabbi Haim Berlin of Volozhin was the son of the Natziv. He served as Chief Rabbi of Moscow, and as the most famous Rosh Yeshiva in the world, of the Volozhin yeshiva (known as the Mother of Yeshivot). In 1906 he moved to Jerusalem, and after the death of Rabbi Shmuel of Salant he became leader of the Ashkenazi Eida in Jerusalem, even though he refused the official position.

Rabbi Menashe Matlov Sathon (died 1834) was a sage of Aleppo and then Tzfat. He wrote Sefer Knesiya Leshem Shamayim against the use of magic which was spreading among Jewish women in the Mizrach and Jerusalem. The book received approbations from many rabbis in Israle and the Diaspora. He also wrote Mateh Menashe, a notebook of grammar rules for reading, and Pirchei Shoshanim.
