"The Sea in Haifa," oil on canvas mounted on board, 19 1/4 x 14.5 in., signed. Shmuel was a free spirit, he lived life his own way. Always religious but never attached to any religious doctrine and an artist who painted and sketched, with great skill, his impressions from the local landscape and his inner visions of biblical events, without ever being a part of any artistic group.Charuvi was born in Ukraine to an orthodox Jewish family. He attended the Chaumiere Grand Academy of art in Paris.
