I have no other Writing Utensil, so I will be Brief.' - Rare Letter from the Admo"r the Imrei Emet of Gur to the Members of his Family

Letter (approximately 4 lines) handwritten and signed by the Admo"r Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Alter, author of Imrei Emet of Gur, to his second son, Rabbi Yitzchak (who passed away at a young age, when he was only 47 years old) and to his daughter, Esther. Undated.

In the letter, the Admo"r asks how his son Yitzchak is doing, and about his daughter Esther, as well as the grandchildren, and then signs, 'Your father, who seeks your well-being, A. M. Alter.' After his signature, the Admo"r adds in his hand, 'I have no other writing utensil, so I will be brief.'

In the letter's margins, his son-in-law, Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Levin, adds, 'I also seek your well-being, and hope to see you ... your brother-in-law, Yitzchak Meir Levin.

It is interesting that one of the leading Admo"rim of all generations (there were those who estimated the number of his followers before the Holocaust to have been over 100,000!) writes that he lacks writing utensils ...
