Sefer Tevunah by Rabbi Yisrael Salanter. Copy that Belonged to Rabbi Shmuel Salant

Sefer Tevunah  - extremely important Torah journal - anthology of Torah novellae from sages and leaders of the Jewish people, edited by Rabbi Yisrael Lipkin of Salant, founder of the mussar movement. Memel- Königsberg. 1861. Complete set of all the issues of Tevunah that were grouped together into a bound book.

There are several owner's signatures on the flyleaf and on the title page, in the hand of the rabbi of the Land of Israel, the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Salant, as well as many of his owner's stamps along the book's leaves. Handwritten gloss on leaf 37. Also on the title page is an interesting self-dedication by the gaon Rabbi Yechiel Michel Tukachinsky, rosh yeshivah of Etz Chaim, in which he relates that he received the book as a gift from his grandfather-in-law, Rabbi Shmuel Salant, but due to the fact that Rabbi Shmuel Salant would not give away books he received as a gift, he just "lent" him the book.

The Tevunah journal is considered the first Torah journal in Eastern Europe! Alongside the words of rabbinic leaders that were sent to the editorial board, there were many Torah thoughts by Rabbi Yisrael Salanter himself printed in the journal. The journal appeared for only three months, in late 1861. In the course of these three months, Rabbi Yisrael Salanter managed to publish 12 booklets, and then the printing ceased. In this book, all the printed books were united, in continuous pagination and without the jacket covers.
