The Shamir Brothers - Sketch before the Printing of the "Laborer" Banknote, 5 Lirot
Sketch before the printing of a 5 Lirot banknote with the figure of the laborer, the "Figures Series", the bank of Israel, 1959.
The sketch for the observe side of the banknote: a laborer with hammer in his hand on the background of a factory; the words "Five Israeli Lirot" and "the Bank of Israel" in Hebrew. The figure of the laborer nicely expresses the spirit of the times.
The sketch for the reverse side of the banknote: a roaring lion on an ancient Hebrew seal that was found in Megido; the words "Bank of Israel" in Hebrew, English and Arabic.
The two sketches are on separate pages.
Inscription of the Shamir Brothers on the sketch as part of it.
10x16 cm. 11x177 cm.
Condition: Very Good.
The brothers Maxim and Gabriel Shamir were among the most outstanding designers of the State during its first years. As Zionist and lovers of the country and the State, they contributed their talent to designing the historical symbols of the developing State. They received the greatest recognition when their design for the Emblem of Israel was accepted.
The "Figures series" is closely related to the atmosphere of Zionism and the belief in life of action. To a large extent, the figure of the laborer nicely expresses the spirit of the time.
Beautiful, important and rare item.
