[112] leaves. 17 x 21 cm. Autograph. Written on both sides of the paper in legible writing. An extensive work of the halachot of Yoreh De’ah, in the author’s handwriting, with erasures, comments and additions. In some places the author inserts text from his revered rabbi, the Chatam Sofer, whom he calls "my master, my teacher, my rabbi.” In other places the author refers to the published work Orchot Hayim on the Shulchan Aruch.
Rabbi Yehuda Arieh Leib HaLevy Levinger [1814-1877] was born in Bonyhád and was an outstanding student of the Chatam Sofer, and later of the latter’s grandson and of the Chassidic master author of Kedushat Yom Tov from Sighet. In 1856 he was appointed rabbi of Kresna, and afterwards of Baja. See more about him in the book The Hatam Sofer and his Disciples,  pages 167-168, and in Sages of Hungary,  page 395. The author of this paper wrote a composition entitled Orchot Hayim about the Shulchan Aruch, in which he included halachot of his rabbi the Chatam Sofer. In 1867, the section on Shulchan Aruch Orech Chaim was printed, but nothing more. In 1941, the author’s son published the book Moshe Emet V’Torato Emet that featured the Torah his father wrote in the name of the Chatam Sofer. Rabbi Yehuda Arieh Leib Levinger also wrote Sha’agat Arieh (Vienna, 1867) and Ben Maskil (Paks, 1905).    
Cloth binding. Glue to reinforce several leaves. On some leaves the ink is faded but still legible. Generally in fine condition. The composition may not be complete.
