Emile Verhaeren (1855-1916) Belgian Poet. A founder of the school of Symbolism. He was six times nominated for the Noble Prize in Literature. Both Picard and Verhaeren, together with Octave Maus (1856-1919), were the founders, and provided the driving force behind an associated periodical L´Art Moderne which started in 1881. The publication defended Les XX from critics attacks.
