Illustrated "Shiviti" Board – Impressive Artistic Work – North Africa the 19th Century
"Shiviti" board illustrated amulet. Ink on paper. North Africa, 19th century. Written for "the rich splendid rabbi Moshe Buchbut".
At the center of the board, the Psalms "Lamenatzeach Binginot Mizmor Shir" shaped as a Menorah. Above it, the title "Shiviti Hashem Lenegdi Tamid". Around the Menorah, additional verses and blessings. The frame of the board is decorated with a calligraphic decoration and on the inner side of the frame, the text "Da Lifnei Mi atah Omed…" "Veyiten Lecha Elohim Mital Hashamayim…"The above text is in hollow letter fonts, such that the ink fills in the letters around, creating the hollow letters.
On the lower part of the board, three half-moons with an inscription in them
"rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai Rabbi Meir Ba'al Hanes Rabbi Amran Ben Divan".
Around the frame of the Menorah, the version of the "Mi Shberach" is written "Mi Sheberach Avoteinu … Yevarech et Ba'al HaMenorah Hazot Veyishmor lo Banav Hane'imim Amen Ken Yehi Ratzon".
The entire Shiviti board is with a filling of calligraphic illustrations. Shapes of plants and various decorations.
Size 46x36cm. two tears along the text on both sides of the leaf without loss. A fold mark in the center. Blurring of ink in a few places.
