Membership card for a student of the Telshe Yeshiva for the 1922-1923 semester. Signed and stamped by the Rosh Yeshiva R. Yosef Leib Bloch.
R. Yosef Yehuda Leib Bloch (1860-1929), was born in Rusyan and in his youth studied under the Alter of Kelm and in the Volozhin Yeshiva under the Netziv and R. Chaim of Brisk. He married the daughter of R. Eliezer Gordon, Rav and Rosh Yeshiva in Telshe and in 1884 began saying a daily shiur in the Yeshiva. Known as a tremendous Gaon and Ba’al Mussar, in 1910, upon the passing of R. Eliezer Gordon, R. Yosef Leib was appointed to succeed him as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva where he served for the next 20 years until his passing.
