Ga’on Rabbi Ya’akov Yisrael Emden – Ya’avetz (1698-1776), eldest son of Ga’on Rabbi Tzvi Ashkenazi author of Chacham Tzvi. Exalted genius, proficient in all realms of Torah, leading Torah giant of his generation, considered one of greatest Achronim. Famous zealot who fought with total devotion against the messianic movement and the Frankists. [When he suspected that Rabbi Yonatan Eibeshitz was drawn into the Sabbatai Zevi messianic movement, he did not hesitate to wage world-war in opposition of a famous Kabbalist and genius, and pamphlets in favor and in opposition of Rabbi Yonatan thunderstruck the entire Jewish world at the time]. Authored dozens of compositions, majority of which were printed in the printing press which he established in his home in city of Altona; these compositions were printed in limited editions and are rare and difficult to obtain. However, despite their scarcity, his halachic compositions, "Sefer Mor U’Ktziah" and "She’elat "Ya’avetz" responsa, his rulings in "Amudei HaShamayim" prayer book and his composition "Lechem Shamayim" on the Mishnayot, were afforded additional publications, and are extensively cited throughout books of rabbinical rulings.
